Appearance & Color

Red Alder appears to be a light bronze to reddish-brown; darkening and reddening as aged There is no visible difference between sapwood and heartwood. The average grain pattern is similar to that of Birch.

Workability

Red Alder is very easy to use with both hand and machine tools; it is particularly easy to sand. Nevertheless, the wood is rather fragile, so care must be taken in some applications to avoid denting it. Red Alder has outstanding properties for gluing, staining and finishing.
